The seat nobody filled

Every material risk an organization carries has a named owner who is accountable for it. Financial risk, legal risk, technical risk, reputational risk. Personal risk to the executives themselves is the exception: it is either unassigned, or assigned to a facilities function that manages badge access and parking.

Why it stays empty

Not negligence. The role has no obvious home. Human resources does not own physical risk, legal owns liability rather than prevention, and facilities owns buildings rather than people. So it falls to the one person who cannot delegate it and has the least time to think about it.

What the role would actually own

Named plainly, so it can be evaluated rather than imagined.

• An honest risk picture per executive, built from how they actually live rather than from a template.
• Travel decisions made before the trip rather than in the airport.
• A household and family plan that exists in writing and has been rehearsed once.
• A standing answer to what happens in the first five seconds, so it is not improvised.

The control that cannot be delegated

Every other executive risk is managed by someone else on your behalf. This one ends with your own judgment, in a moment you did not schedule, with nobody to escalate to. That is what makes it different from the rest of the register, and it is why it cannot be solved by hiring alone.

Filling it without hiring

The seat can be filled by becoming the person who owns it, which takes preparation rather than headcount. That is what this practice builds: the judgment, the plan, and the capability behind it, held by the executive rather than outsourced to a function that does not exist.
