Most security thinking starts with one person and works outward. Households do not work that way, and the person who knows how a household actually runs is rarely the person any arrangement was written for. This sheet is written to her.

What an arrangement is scoped to
Whatever exists, whether a detail, a driver, a monitored alarm or a corporate policy, was almost certainly written around one person and one set of movements. That is not a criticism of it. It is what it was bought to do.
- A named principal, and the hours that principal is working.
- Scheduled movement between locations somebody planned in advance.
- A property, treated as a building rather than as a place people live in unpredictable ways.
- A threat that is specific and already known.
What a household actually is
A household is not a person with dependents attached. It is a system of routines, people and information, most of which was never written down anywhere. This is the part no arrangement was scoped to, and it is larger than it looks.
- Four or five people moving independently, on schedules that repeat weekly and were set by a school, a season or a class timetable.
- A staff and vendor list that changes several times a year and lives mostly in one person's phone.
- A digital footprint published by the family members least equipped to judge it.
- A set of standing arrangements, about doors, keys, codes, deliveries and who collects whom, that everyone follows and nobody has recorded.
Who holds the map
This is the part worth stating plainly, because it is almost never said. In most households of this shape, one person holds nearly all of the information above, and it is not the person any arrangement is built around.
- She sets and adjusts the weekly schedule, so she is the only one who knows what genuinely repeats.
- She hires, schedules and pays the people who hold keys and codes.
- She knows which child posts, which one overshares, and which one has an account nobody has looked at.
- She is usually the first to notice when something is off, and typically has nowhere to put that observation.
Why none of it is written down
Not through neglect. The reasons are ordinary, and naming them removes most of the weight people attach to the gap.
- It accumulated one decision at a time over years, so it never felt like a system that needed recording.
- Raising it can sound like doubting the arrangement somebody already paid for.
- There has never been a form for it. Nobody has ever handed her the questions.
- The information changes often enough that writing it down feels like it would be out of date immediately, which is true and is also the reason to date it rather than skip it.
